Get better Your Relationship With Your Web Designer

Most people do not believe that it is possible to get all the way through the creation of a website, from start to finish, without having at least one moment of frustration or disappointment. Fortunately, you can minimise the chances of this occurring by ensuring that you have a good relationship with the web designer whom you have chosen to tackle the project. We have compiled a list of tips that you can use in constantly improving this relationship.

1.     Give a brief description – It is best that you start off on the right foot with your designer, as this means that you don’t have to attempt damage control down the line. Give them a brief description of what exactly it is that your company does and then give them a brief rundown of what you want the website to achieve.
2.     Inform on your competitors – Determine who your main competitors are and provide the designer with information on them. If they have a website, make sure that you provide a link. You should also outline what you do and do not like about their site, specifically noting features that you are interested in using.
3.     Inform on your interests – Spend some time browsing the internet and taking note of websites that you like or that stand out to you for one reason or another. Provide your web designer with links to these sites and notes on what you like about them. They can use this information for inspiration for your project.
4.     Provide organised content – In order for your designer to present your website in a timely manner, you need to ensure that you have provided them with the content that they need. The best organisation lies in having a separate document for each page of the site, as this lessens the chances that mistakes will be made.
5.     Provide freedom to design – One of the biggest issues faced by web designers is dealing with a client who believes that they can design the whole website themselves. Keep in mind that this person is the expert in the industry and that you are employing their services; you wouldn’t hire them if you didn’t need to.
6.     Understand the stages – It is important to recognize that there are a number of stages involved in the creation of a website. Firstly, a mock up is created of what the site will look like; secondly, the template is coded into a fully functioning site; and thirdly, the site is made live and is handed over to the client.
7.     Use correct grammar – Whilst this may not seem like an overly big deal, it is important to keep in mind that your designer is not your secretary – they do not have the time, nor are they paid, to correct the grammar and spelling of your content. Make sure that you have used spell check and read through the content.

There are, of course, a number of other ways that you can work towards improving the relationship that you have with your web designer. Don’t be late on paying installments, for example, and don’t make changes once you have approved the initial designs are often great ways to start. This will ensure that both you and your designer are happy with the way that the project is going, resulting in a great relationship.
